Guaranteed daily water releases from the 88 MW Kareeya Hydro power station ensure these rapids run fast year-round. Commercial rafting sections are classified as Grade 3 and 4, creating a highly turbulent ride.

Guided trips spend up to three hours on the water. Participants navigate steep drops and fast currents while surrounded by an ancient rainforest canopy.

The Launch Point

30-45 minutesBelow Kareeya Hydro

This staging area sits directly below the Kareeya Hydro power station. Rafters put on their safety gear and receive critical briefings here before entering the water. Listen closely to your guide's paddle commands during this time. Mastering these instructions early is crucial for navigating the Grade 3 and 4 sections safely.

Rainforest Calm Stretches

IntermittentWildlife spotting

Short sections of calm water break up the intense rapids along the river. These stretches allow rafters to float safely and view the surrounding Wet Tropics rainforest. Take this time to rest your arms and scan the ancient canopy above. You might spot bright blue Ulysses butterflies or local birds of prey.
